Do you sometimes live only in your head?

Hi Players,

Do you ever feel that a part of you only lives in your head?

I mean ..

have you ever imagined doing something that was so vivid in your head, yet you never dared to go through it in real life?

It happened to me.

I am proud of having a good sense of humor.

It is one of my strengths.

Many years ago, I even took a comedy class just for fun.

Since then, the idea of making people laugh always inspired me, but it was only living in my head….

Until a week ago.

I had my first performance on stage.

It was a very short performance, only 5 minutes on the Gotham Comedy Club stage in NYC.

It was the graduation showcase of my six-week stand-up comedy class, but it felt like a huge victory.( http://gothamcomedyclub.com/Classes)

I wasn’t scared before the show—I was terrified.

My heart was pounding like crazy, and I couldn’t sleep the night before. Seconds before I went on stage, I was sure I would freak out and just run away.

Every cell in my body screamed, RUN.!..I know today that those were the pains of real personal growth.

This is how stepping out of your comfort zone feels like. Not so great….

I could finally understand Dr. Brene Brown’s words deeply.“Daring greatly is being brave and afraid every minute of the day at the exact same time.”

Many years passed since the first thought of performing even crossed my mind; I was curious about what was

the “thing” that enabled the big step from my head and imagination to the real world.

I figured out that if I discovered this secret, I would be able to achieve almost any desirable dream. ( Almost, because being 30 again, for example, will take more than a leap of faith.

I am optimistic, not delusional)

I think three significant aspects made this possible:

Self-trust – I had to believe in myself. No matter what happens, I know I can handle it.

“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly“. J.F.K

Trusting myself to do this took time. I was finally ready. I knew it was not about succeeding or failing but learning and growing.

You will never know what great things you can achieve unless you try. Give yourself more credit.

Community– My fellow students in the stand-up comedy class .

A small community that formed in only six short weeks.

Being around like-minded people who were trying to be their best version, taking risks, and being fully vulnerable in expressing their fears.

The level of commitment, positive feedback, and support was unbelievable.

Surround yourself with dreamers and believers. Those are the people who can change the world.

Supportive Circle of Influence—I am fortunate to have a close circle of family and friends who have encouraged me throughout my journey.

When my inner voice of doubt and self-judgment was, “Are you out of your mind? What were you thinking? Seriously?”

They pushed the negative voices away and acknowledged my courage. I couldn’t do it without them.

If you have a dream and it’s been living in your head for a long time,

As the Dream University founder -Marcia Wieder says,” It’s about time either to drop it or do it.”

What is it going to be?

Here are my moments of truth …(and by the way, the camera does make you look fatter)

Playfully yours,

Rina 🙂
