Play at Work …is possible!

We spend our best hours, days, weeks and years at work, but yet so many waste precious time just waiting for the weekend, for the holidays, for the next vacation, for the next dream job…

Sometimes work can be challenging, unfulfilling, full of disappointments and frustration.

Yes, maybe there is this perfect job that is waiting for you in the future, where you will be more appreciated, make more money, have more meaning and ultimately be happier (maybe…).

But we all have a choice.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Lost time is never found again,” so we better get the most out of it no matter the circumstances (until this perfect ideal job comes our way).

I found that bringing more PLAY to my daily routine at work made a huge difference for me and made every day so much better,

Here are my tips for a more playful workplace:

  1. Don’t leave your playfulness/foolishness at home; take it to work.

Workplaces became so damn serious. Somehow, success became associated with being serious …such a shame.

People with a sense of humor and playfulness are much more fun to work with.  If you are this great, funny person, be just that. People need someone like you around.

  2. Find a partner for a Playdate.

I found that what really makes a difference is having at least one person at work that you can share laughs (or cries) with in any given time.

(I am fortunate to have such a friend).

Make time in your busy schedule (preferably during lunchtime) for fun and enjoyable conversation.

Sometimes, sending one funny message or just a smiley face can change everything.

  3. Create opportunities to PLAY at work.

There are many opportunities to play at work like celebrating birthdays, holidays, team- building events or successful milestones.

When given the opportunity, people will engage and enjoy it. Yes, there will be always some who will be like “it’s so childish ..I don’t get it…”

    Don’t let them discourage you.

Don’t be afraid to suggest fun activities.

Most people would love to join in and wait for someone to be the first.

Be the first! It’s your time, enjoy it.

  4. Make your office space your playground.

It is so important to be surrounded by the things you like that make you smile.

Bring your “toys” to your office (some of my “toys” are flowers, candies, beautiful colorful pictures).

It will not just make you feel better; it will draw others’ attention and create meaningful conversations about the things you love the most.

You will be surprised to discover who shares the same love.

You can also find new “playdates” and build a community of “players “at work.

Remember, PLAY is not the opposite of work, It’s depression. As Dr. Tal Ben Sachar often says “we need to give ourselves the permission to be human “.

Playing is being human. You have permission to “PLAY” at work.

The same work will become much more fun. I promise.

Stay playful always

Rina:)
